Hey everyone! I'm upgrading a hand-me-down PC from my brother that was built around 2015, and I could really use some advice. Here's what I know about my current setup:
- GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 (4GB)
- CPU: Intel Core i7-4790K
- RAM: 16GB
- I'm gaming on a 60Hz monitor
I'm planning to build my new setup with these specs:
- AMD 9600X CPU
- NVIDIA GTX 5070 GPU
- 32GB of RAM
- AOC Q27G42ZE 27-inch 240Hz 1440p monitor as the main display and MSI PRO MP275Q 27-inch 100Hz 1440p for casual browsing.
I'm primarily going to use this for gaming (not heavy VRAM titles, mostly modded Skyrim, TFT, Valorant, Borderlands), but since I'll start my accounting job in February, I'll also need it for Excel and XERO if I end up working remotely. Do you think this setup is good enough? I've heard mixed reviews about the 5070 and some suggest the 5070 Ti, but I'm hesitant because of the price difference (I live in Australia). Thanks for any insights!

Make sure you check your PC case size because that's important for GPU fitment! You want to ensure whatever you buy fits in snugly. The Montech XR ATX Mid Tower Case should do the trick since I’ve seen it accommodates larger GPUs really well.
The GPU and CPU you've chosen should work just fine for your needs! The GTX 5070 will handle most games really well, and the 9600X is a solid CPU for both gaming and office tasks. Don’t stress too much about the Ti variant unless you're planning to push for high-end gaming in the future—it’s okay to save that cash! You’ve got a nice mix for gaming and productivity.
The 5070 is perfectly decent! If your heavy gaming is mostly on modded Skyrim and the like, it’ll serve you well. Just keep an eye on your cooling and airflow in the case, especially with those higher specs.
Everything looks good, but if you can, consider the 9070 XT instead of the 5070. It offers better performance and could be worth the investment in the long run. Plus, it’ll handle those games you mentioned like a champ. Just my two cents!
