Hey everyone! I recently picked up an X870 motherboard and I'm at a crossroads deciding between the 9800X3D and the 9950X for my CPU. I can't seem to find the 9800X3D at a reasonable price without running into scams.
Just to give you some context, I'm not only a gamer but also a graphic and motion designer. Occasionally, I edit videos for YouTube and for my friends too. While it's clear that the 9800X3D excels in gaming, I'm curious if it will still meet my productivity needs. Would I be better off with the 9950X, considering it has more cores for my work?

It really depends on how much you’re using it for gaming versus productivity. From my experience, in games like FFXIV, the 3D makes a noticeable difference with player loading times. It holds up remarkably well in Photoshop too, but if rendering is a big part of your workflow, the 9950X could handle that better. I own a 9950X3D, and while rendering takes longer, I love the ability to run multiple games without lag. If you're gaming heavily, the 9800X3D is great, but you might miss out on multitasking capabilities.
How much are you focused on gaming vs. productivity? I do a lot of productive work and I've been really satisfied with my 7950X. If it's pretty evenly split for you, weigh what you value more. A good balance may make a difference based on your usage!
The 9800X3D is actually still a solid choice for productivity! It’s a significant upgrade from the 7800X3D for tasks that don’t require more than 8 cores. If you don’t rely on your work income and are mainly doing this as a hobby, the 9800X3D should serve you well since it’s more than enough for most users.
