Why isn’t my external drive showing up on my MacBook?

I'm having trouble with my WD Elements 1TB hard drive. It works perfectly on my Windows PC, but it doesn't show up at all on my MacBook Air M2. I even tried formatting it to exFAT, thinking that might help, but it still doesn't show up. The drive is almost full, but right now it's empty as I moved the files to another PC. I really need to get all those files transferred back onto the drive so I can access them on my MacBook. I don't need it to work on Windows—just need to ensure it shows up on my Mac. I've done some troubleshooting, but I don't have a different cable to try since it's a unique one. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! I've looked through a bunch of posts, but none seem to help with my issue. Thanks!

exFAT should definitely work fine for both systems. Are you sure you formatted it correctly? If you want to double-check, there’s a good guide available that walks you through formatting the drive using a Mac rather than a Windows system. Here’s a helpful link to follow: laptopmag.com/articles/format-drive-for-windows-and-mac.

I see! It does show up as exFAT on the Windows PC, and I formatted it by clicking right on the disk (and avoided the fast formatting option). So, it's supposed to be good, right?
