Recommendations for Self-Hosted Open Source Knowledge Bases or Wikis

I'm looking for suggestions on self-hosted, open-source knowledge base or wiki solutions for my work at an MSP. We currently use the knowledge base included with ConnectWise PSA, but it doesn't quite meet our needs. Here's what we're looking for: it should be open-source, self-hosted, capable of searching the contents, allow tagging of knowledge bases, and have a user-friendly editor for adding images. One of my coworkers set up a demo of wiki.js, but it feels like overkill and doesn't search effectively. We primarily need a solution for documenting our knowledge that also allows us to easily retrieve that information later. Ideally, it should run on a Linux server and have a web interface, with offline apps being a bonus. Any recommendations?

Honestly, if you're looking for something straightforward, BookStack should cover all your criteria well. It's designed for documentation and has everything you need without the extra fluff!

You might want to check out BookStack. It's quite popular and I think it fits your needs better than wiki.js. It's fairly easy to set up, and the editor is intuitive, making it simple to add images. Plus, it has solid search functionality.

If you're looking for something robust, xWiki might be your best bet. It's widely used and offers a lot of features that could help, plus it’s known for good performance with larger setups. Might be worth checking out!

Dokuwiki could be a great fit for you. It's open-source and very straightforward to install—plus, you won't need any complex database setup like Postgres or Maria. It's simple yet effective, so definitely worth considering!

Hudu is another option that has been mentioned. I'm not as familiar with it, but it could be worth a look to see if it meets your specific needs.
