I'm planning my first gaming PC and would mainly play Marvel Rivals, Fortnite, The Sims, Stardew Valley, Baldur's Gate 3, Detroit: Become Human, Little Nightmares, Cyberpunk 2077, Hogwarts Legacy, and similar games. I've never built a PC before, so I'm not sure whether these parts are appropriate or whether I'm paying too much for branding and unnecessary features. The current build comes to roughly $2,800 after tax.
The parts are an AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D, Radeon RX 9070 XT 16GB, ASUS ROG Strix B850-A motherboard, 32GB DDR5-6000 CL30 RAM, Samsung 990 Pro 1TB NVMe SSD, Corsair RM850e 850W power supply, Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE cooler, and a HYTE Y50 case. Is this a sensible build for those games, or could I get equal or better performance for substantially less? Would a prebuilt be a better option for a first-time builder?

For this budget, the combination of a $2,800 total, only 1TB of storage, and an RX 9070 XT is hard to justify. You could likely buy a cheaper prebuilt with similar or better hardware, or build it yourself for much less. The games listed do not require an ultra-premium motherboard or a flagship gaming CPU, although a strong modern processor and the 9070 XT would give you excellent performance at 1440p.
As a rough comparison, a high-end build using an RTX 5080 and Ryzen 7 9800X3D cost around this much, and that was not considered an especially good deal. Your proposed system should be nowhere near that price unless the local market has unusually high component costs.
