I have an older iPad that sat unused for a few years. It shows no sign of charging or turning on. What should I try before assuming the battery is done?
Any chance this iPad will charge after years in storage?

Try a known-good cable and wall adapter, and check the charging port for lint or debris without poking it with anything metal. If the battery is deeply discharged, the screen may stay blank for a while, so leave it connected for an hour or two and then try a force restart. The restart steps depend on the iPad model.

After several years unused, a worn-out battery is a real possibility. You can give it a few hours on a reliable charger, but if it still shows nothing after testing another cable and adapter, I would stop treating it as a simple charging issue and get a repair estimate.

Keep an eye on it while it charges. If the iPad gets unusually hot, looks swollen, or the screen is lifting, unplug it and don't keep trying to charge it. Otherwise, a patient test with a different charger is a reasonable first step.
