Best Methods for Backing Up Emails from GoDaddy to Local HDD

I'm migrating a few email accounts from GoDaddy to Google Workspace, and I want to ensure I have a full backup of all my emails before I start the transition. The usual method I use on cPanel is exporting the emails as .eml files, but GoDaddy's Professional Email plans don't include cPanel. I'm considering syncing my emails with Outlook and exporting them, but I find that process a bit tedious since I couldn't locate the actual .eml files on my Mac. What would be the most efficient way to back up this data on an external hard drive? Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

You might want to try Mailstore; it’s a good option for backing up emails, and it allows exporting them as PST files. It could streamline the process a lot for this backup task!

Thanks for the tip! I haven't worked with PST files before. Are they generally considered a better option compared to EML for backups?

I actually used a specialized software to migrate directly to Microsoft 365, which works for Google too. It's something worth exploring if you're looking to switch from GoDaddy. It made my life easier!

That’s great to know! Did you have to pay for each email account while using it?

If you're working with IMAP, I suggest using Thunderbird or any other IMAP client that can sync everything to local files. I’ve had success using it alongside Outlook for my backups.

Thanks! I think I’ll give Thunderbird a shot; it might just be the solution I need to handle these large accounts!

Just a heads up, Outlook on Mac stores emails in a unique database format that makes it tough to extract files. Your best approach might be to use tools like imapsync if GoDaddy's IMAP service is up to par, rather than manually exporting.

Exactly, I was hoping to avoid the tedious manual exports! I’ll definitely check out some tools instead.

If you have IMAP access to your GoDaddy emails, using the migration tool from Google Workspace admin could save you a lot of hassle. It's also worth checking out GWSMO for managing your data. Just a couple of options for you to consider!

Thanks a lot! I'm set on using IMAP for the migration, but I definitely want to back everything up before I make any changes. GWSMO sounds new to me; I’ll look it up!
