Can Apple Help Unblacklist an iPhone Reported Stolen by an Account Holder?

I'm in the middle of a difficult divorce, and my wife was arrested. After being released, she reported my iPhone 17 Pro Max as stolen to T-Mobile, even though I bought it outright with cash from an Apple Store about a month ago. T-Mobile says only the account holder can change the plan, and she also removed my administrative access. I have AppleCare+ with Theft and Loss and can provide police reports, the purchase receipt, and bank statements. Can Apple help remove the IMEI block or replace the phone, or would I need to pursue this through T-Mobile or an insurance claim?

If Apple approves a genuine Theft and Loss claim, you would generally pay the applicable deductible and receive a replacement under the policy. That still isnโ€™t the same as Apple removing the original IMEI blacklist, so itโ€™s important to explain that the phone was falsely reported by someone else and provide the receipt, payment proof, account information, and any relevant police records.

MellowCedar42: That makes sense. Iโ€™ll avoid making any claim that isnโ€™t accurate and focus on documenting the false report and contacting both companies through their fraud or escalation departments.

A blacklisted IMEI usually prevents Apple from processing ordinary repairs or treating the device as usable on the carrierโ€™s network. Apple employees generally canโ€™t override the carrierโ€™s activation policy. The practical options are to resolve the blacklist with T-Mobile, move your number to a new account or SIM if possible, and ask AppleCare whether the situation qualifies for a covered replacement.

Donโ€™t intentionally damage the phone or claim that it was lost when it wasnโ€™t. That could create insurance or fraud problems, and a replacement may inherit restrictions if the original claim is handled incorrectly. Be completely accurate with AppleCare, keep the phone and all documentation, and get written confirmation from the carrier about who reported it and why.

Apple canโ€™t normally remove a carrierโ€™s blacklist or change the account status. If you still have the phone, make sure itโ€™s secured in Find My and contact T-Mobile through the account holder or a formal fraud/dispute process. Your purchase records and police documentation may help show that the theft report was false. You can also ask Apple about filing a Theft and Loss claim, but approval depends on the policy terms and Appleโ€™s verification process.
