Can I Build a Casio AE-1200WH-Style Watch With Only a Phone?

I want to create an app or program that looks and works like the main interface of a Casio AE-1200WH. I only have a phone and currently know nothing about coding. I realize this watch has a fairly complicated interface and probably does not offer an easy way to replace or customize its built-in software. Is it possible to make a similar watch interface as an app, or would I need special hardware and a programmable smartwatch? I'm mainly asking for guidance on where to start.

The Casio AE-1200WH itself is not programmable, so you cannot install your own code or replace its interface. To build something similar, you could start by making a phone app that imitates its display and functions. That would let you learn basic programming without needing a physical watch. If you eventually want the project to run on a smartwatch, you would need a programmable model such as certain Garmin devices or a Wear OS watch, plus a computer or suitable development tools. Garmin watches use Monkey C, which is beginner-friendly if you are willing to learn the basics first.

I mostly want the result to look like an app because I do not currently own an electronic smartwatch. I’m especially interested in the AE-1200WH design and would like to recreate that style.
