Can I get a free battery replacement by buying AppleCare now?

My iPhone 15 Pro Max is at 76% maximum battery capacity after 1,109 charge cycles. I bought it in February 2024 and am wondering whether purchasing AppleCare now would qualify me for a free battery replacement, or whether I would still have to pay the standard out-of-warranty price.

Probably not. Standard AppleCare+ can generally only be added within a limited period after buying the phone, usually around 60 days. A device purchased in February 2024 would be well outside that window. AppleCare One may have different eligibility rules, but the phone would still need to pass an inspection or diagnostic check.

Even if you somehow qualified for coverage now, the battery’s current condition would likely be considered pre-existing. Buying a plan after the battery has already fallen to 76% generally won’t make that existing wear eligible for a free replacement.

The practical option is to pay for an out-of-warranty battery replacement. The exact price depends on your country, but an iPhone 15 Pro Max battery replacement has commonly been around $99 USD before taxes. Apple Support or an authorized service provider can confirm the current local price.
