Can I Use My Old Passcode to Access My iPhone After Resetting?

I reset my iPhone 16 passcode last night, but I can't remember the new one. I read somewhere that I can use my old passcode for up to 72 hours afterwards. If I do, will it just let me in temporarily, or will it change my passcode back to the old one permanently? I also don't have Face ID set up. My partner wants the passcode to be the same as we set last night due to some trust issues, and I can't reach out to him since he's at work and I can't access my phone.
