Could I Get in Trouble for Viewing the BIOS on My New Work Computer?

I'm starting a new job in a few weeks and recently received the computer equipment I'll be using. I powered on the PC to check its specifications and opened the BIOS, but I didn't change any settings. I simply looked around, exited, and shut it down. Could this violate company policy, and is there any way the IT department would know I accessed the BIOS? I'll be working in healthcare, so I'm especially cautious about security rules.

Whether it’s technically against policy depends on the organization, but getting in trouble for briefly looking is unlikely. In healthcare environments, IT may have stricter controls and may lock the firmware settings, so the safest approach is to let them handle anything beyond basic observation.

Think of it like looking under the hood of a company vehicle without turning any bolts. Inspecting the hardware is generally harmless, but changing settings can create boot problems, security issues, or extra work for IT. If you ever need support, tell them you only viewed the BIOS and didn’t modify anything.
