Keep in mind that iMessage is linked to your Apple ID, not just your phone number. If someone has access to your Apple ID, they could see your messages. You might want to check the security settings there.
You should definitely change your password and enable two-factor authentication (2FA) on your iCloud account. That adds an extra layer of security and might help stop anyone from getting in. Have you done that yet?
