Hey folks! I recently ended up with a Google Pixel 8a phone that's blacklisted, so it won't connect to any cellular networks. I know I can still use it over Wi-Fi for browsing, YouTube, and regular apps, but I'm looking for some practical or inventive ideas to give this device a new lease on life. I'm open to suggestions like turning it into a smart home remote, a permanent security camera, or even a dedicated media player for my car. Have you seen any great uses for a Wi-Fi-only smartphone? What specific apps or projects would you recommend? Thanks a lot!

I actually use mine as a security camera when I travel! It connects to hotel Wi-Fi and runs WardenCam. I also use it as a clock and even a nightlight in the bathroom sometimes. Great way to repurpose it!
Just so you know, there's no global blacklist, so it might be different depending on where you are. If your phone is blacklisted in Canada, check out devicecheck.ca for more info.
One cool idea is to use your phone as a dedicated media and navigation device in your car. I have a similar setup, and I just update it via Wi-Fi when I park at home. If your car has Sync, you can even automate file transfers to keep it updated easily!
You could turn it into a smart speaker by connecting it to a good-quality speaker. With a Bluetooth server installed, it can act as a receiving target for your other devices. Plus, set up a calendar or weather widget for quick information access!
Consider using your phone as a display for those missing gauges or instruments in your car. It's a practical way to utilize the device and gives you access to real-time data right in your car!

Thanks for the heads-up! I wasn't sure how it worked in different regions. I’ll definitely look into that!
