Hey everyone! I'm about to pick up my new iPhone 17 at the Apple Store, and I'm wondering if I have to trade in my old iPhone right there and then. If possible, I'd love to take both phones home and do the transfer at my own pace. I have some apps that don't back up to the cloud, so I'd need both devices together to move everything over. I just really don't want to be stuck in the store for hours while the new phone updates and I manually transfer everything. Anyone know if I can do the transfer at home and bring back the old phone later?

I've been in the same boat! It seems like they prefer you to swap in-store when you pick up. However, if you're picking up two phones, that could complicate things, especially if your wife isn’t there. Might be worth asking the staff when you get there.
When I upgraded to my iPhone 15 Pro Max a couple of years ago, I was allowed to take both my old and new phones home. They just asked me to bring the old one back within a couple of weeks. So as long as they follow the same process, you should be good to take it home!
Yep, you can send the old phone back later. That's what I've heard. They’ll give you instructions on how to do it, probably similar to when they ship it to you.
Thanks for the heads-up! I’m curious if the shipping method is the same as if you get it delivered.

That sounds great! But do you know if they allow you to send it in? Like, do they provide a trade-in kit for shipping?
