Do I need to reinstall Windows after swapping to a different motherboard?

I replaced my AMD B650M motherboard with a B850I model without changing any other components. Windows booted normally and everything seems to work as if nothing changed. Is there any real benefit to doing a clean Windows installation, or should I leave it alone unless problems appear?

A clean installation can be considered best practice, especially if the old motherboard had very different chipset drivers or utilities installed. However, it isn’t mandatory. Uninstall old motherboard-specific software, install the new chipset and device drivers, and only reinstall Windows if problems actually show up.

If everything is stable, leave it alone. A clean install is always an option later if the computer becomes unreliable or develops performance issues, but there’s no benefit in creating extra work when the current setup is functioning properly.

There’s no need to reinstall Windows just because the motherboard changed. If the system boots normally and all the hardware works, you can keep using the existing installation.

That was my thought too. I mostly saw people recommend reinstalling when they were changing several other components at the same time.

Older versions of Windows were more likely to have driver or activation problems after a motherboard swap. Modern Windows usually handles the change pretty well, so I wouldn’t worry unless you start seeing crashes, missing devices, or other unusual behavior.
