Getting Texts Meant for Someone Else After Deactivating My Phone Number

I've been using an iPhone with Spectrum, but I've deactivated my service due to financial reasons since I primarily work from home and rely on WiFi. However, I can still send and receive iMessages from my phone number even though I haven't had service for a couple of months. Recently, I've started receiving texts from random numbers as if I'm in the middle of conversations, and when I call my own number using a texting app, someone answers. What can I do to fix this situation?

Consider switching your iMessages to just your email instead. This way, you can still use FaceTime and video calls without confusion between numbers, especially until you get everything sorted out.

It looks like your number has been reassigned to someone else, which is why you're getting their messages. You should stop using iMessages with that number. Just let those senders know they have the wrong number; otherwise, it might be better to deregister your number from iMessage.

You really should deregister your number from iMessage. Just follow the instructions on Apple's site to do that. It seems like you're still receiving messages meant for the new owner of your number.

I'm confused about how you can work from home but still can't afford cell service. Could you clarify that?

Having a work-from-home job doesn't always mean making a lot of money. I work at a call center, and sometimes the numbers just don't add up.
