Has Dell become impossible to buy from directly?

My Dell sales representatives seem to keep disappearing, and I'm repeatedly being transferred between departments and regions or left on hold whenever I try to order equipment. Has anyone else had the same experience? I'm looking for a more reliable way to purchase Dell hardware, whether that means ordering directly, using a VAR, or working with another vendor.

I’ve heard that Dell has been restructuring or reducing parts of its direct-sales operation, which may explain why customers are being pushed toward another vendor or purchasing channel. Using a VAR seems to be the most reliable workaround if you need a consistent point of contact.

We stopped relying on Dell reps and started ordering directly through their normal online sales channels. The process is less personal, but the time we save by avoiding repeated handoffs and reintroductions makes up for it.

A VAR can take care of the quoting and purchasing process for you. I’ve had the same VAR representative for several years, and they respond to requests quickly, which is a lot easier than constantly being assigned new Dell contacts.

Direct Dell pricing has usually been better for us, especially since we don’t order hundreds of machines at once. A VAR may still be worthwhile if the support and consistency save enough administrative time.

You’re definitely not alone. We’ve gone through roughly four or five Dell contacts, and their data-center and compute representatives have changed every few months. It seems to vary by region and account, though—some companies have managed to keep the same rep for years.
