I'm in a bit of a panic here. I dropped my iPhone 13 in the toilet and quickly fished it out. I turned it off immediately and removed the SIM card, but I don't have any silica packets and decided against using rice. My phone has been standing upright for about 3 hours since the accident. I was about to go to bed when I tried to put the SIM card back in, but the tray wouldn't click into place like it did earlier. I'm worried that my attempts to reinsert it so soon might have caused damage. Should I leave it alone for a while, and why wouldn't it go back in? Is it related to swelling or something else? Also, any tips for what to do next would be much appreciated!

Avoid forcing the SIM card back in! It’s best to visit your cell provider first thing in the morning. They might provide you a new SIM card and guide you on drying your phone properly. Just give it some time and don’t rush things!

Do you think I would need a new SIM card?
