I recently had my Apple Watch stolen by a family member, and I immediately put it on lost mode when I realized it was gone. I don't intend to keep the watch; I just want to wipe my data from it. However, after several hours of trying, it still shows 'erase pending' even though I can track the watch and see that it's connected to the internet. Is it normal for this to happen? Also, how is the watch connected online if someone else has it? Does this mean they might be accessing my settings? Any advice would be really helpful. Thanks!

It can be super annoying when it stays in 'erase pending' mode. Sometimes it takes a while to process the command. If you're sure about putting it on lost mode and tracking it, just be patient. It should eventually wipe once it's connected properly when the right conditions are met. Just keep monitoring it and check back later.
I understand how frustrating that situation must be! According to Apple, if you can still see your watch in Find My and you’ve put it in lost mode, it means the person who has it hasn’t accessed your settings yet. If the watch doesn’t have cellular capabilities, it's likely that the data is being rerouted through another Apple device nearby. So you don’t need to worry about them having access to your Apple ID or anything like that!
That makes sense! I was worried they might have figured out my info somehow.

Thanks for the reassurance! I'll keep an eye on it and hope it clears soon.
