How Can I Be Sure Malware From Cracked Games Is Completely Removed?

I bought a new PC and installed several cracked games before realizing the security risks. I have since stopped using cracks and only install legitimate software. I deleted the games, but I'm worried that a crack or possible malware may have left files, services, scheduled tasks, or other changes behind. How can I check and clean the system thoroughly? I'd prefer methods that don't involve manually editing the registry, and I want the highest possible confidence that the computer is safe.

You can first run an offline security scan and a second-opinion malware scanner, then check for unfamiliar startup programs, scheduled tasks, browser extensions, and newly created user accounts. Those steps may find common infections, but a clean reinstall is still the best choice if you entered passwords or handled sensitive information while the cracked games were installed.

If you need the closest thing to a guarantee, back up only personal documents you know are safe, erase the system drive, and perform a clean operating-system installation from official installation media. Reinstall your applications from legitimate sources afterward. This is much more reliable than trying to hunt down every file or registry entry manually.

Thanks, that sounds like the safest solution.

A crack and a virus aren’t automatically the same thing. A crack is meant to bypass licensing, while malware is software designed to cause harm or steal information. However, cracked software is often bundled with malware, so you should treat the machine as potentially compromised.
