How Can I Switch Between Two PCs With a KVM Shortcut or Button?

I recently started using a two-PC setup and discovered software KVM tools that let one keyboard and mouse control both computers. I'd like to switch between the PCs using a physical button, keyboard shortcut, or possibly a Stream Deck action. What software or hardware options work well for this? I'm working with very limited desk space, so a compact solution would be ideal.

Many hardware KVM switches support a keyboard shortcut for changing computers. Common options include pressing a specific key twice quickly or using a configurable key combination. Check the manual for each model, since the shortcut varies between devices.

A compact USB sharing switch can be a good alternative to software KVM tools. It connects the keyboard and mouse to two computers and switches between them with a physical button. The main advantages are that the peripherals stay directly connected, thereโs no network-related input delay, and neither computer has to act as the always-on primary system. The downside is that the device and shipping costs can add up, and it still takes up some desk space.

MellowCactus47: That sounds useful, but cost and desk space are both major concerns for me. My setup is in a very small room, so Iโm trying to avoid adding another bulky device.
