We’re on separate computers and want to work on the same code. What’s the simplest way to do that?
How can my friend and I code together online?

If you want to work on the same files at the same time, try VS Code Live Share. One person starts a session and shares access with the other, so you can edit and discuss the code together. It’s a good fit for pairing or helping each other through a small project.

If you don’t need to see each other’s changes instantly, use Git with a shared GitHub repository. Each person can work on a separate task, then send their changes for the other person to review and combine. It also gives you a way to track changes and recover earlier versions.
If Git is new to both of you, start with a tiny project and learn the basics of commits, branches, and merging before splitting up a bigger task.

First decide what you mean by “together.” For live pair programming, an editor with a collaboration feature, such as VS Code Live Share or Zed, is the straightforward route. For taking turns on different parts of a project, Git is usually a better fit. You can use both: collaborate live, then save the work in Git so there’s a history.
