I have an old bottle of 99% isopropyl alcohol that I opened a few years back. I'm curious about how long it remains effective for cleaning a CPU after it's been opened. Does anyone know?

Some evaporation will happen over the years, which could make it a little less concentrated. However, as long as the liquid looks clear and isn’t contaminated, you should still be good to clean with it. Just expect it to take a tad longer to dry, and you might need a bit more to get the job done.
It should be good indefinitely if the lid is properly sealed. Just keep in mind that if the container gets opened frequently, some evaporation of the alcohol will occur, which might slightly lower its effectiveness over time.
As long as the bottle is still mostly full and closed well, it won’t go bad. If you leave it open for long periods, just be aware it may lose some potency due to evaporation.
Oh, I also bag mine in a ziploc to cut down on airflow and evaporation. It really helps keep the alcohol from losing its strength!
In my experience, we use it at work and it stays effective for a long time. So unless you’re seeing dirt or something weird in the bottle, you should be fine!
