My friend's Apple ID was hacked this morning. The hacker managed to change the password and phone number linked to her account. The access showed a login attempt from China, but it might be through a VPN. All backup numbers were altered, and when we contacted Apple, they said they couldn't help us without the new phone number. Now, all her personal data is inaccessible. Is there any way to recover her account? Also, her bank information is still on the Apple ID. If any purchases are made, can that information be traced back to her? We're really at a dead end here and could use some guidance.

Unfortunately, if the phone number on the Apple ID has been changed, recovering it can be really tough. I'd suggest contacting her bank to block any purchases to prevent further issues until she gets a new card. They may be able to help with any fraudulent transactions if they occur.

If a purchase happens, can that be traced back to her? We’re thinking that if we knew the new number, Apple might be able to assist us in getting the account back.
