Is a 500W PSU enough for upgrading to an RX 6900 XT?

I'm planning to replace my RTX 4060 8GB with an AMD RX 6900 XT, but I'm unsure whether my current 500W power supply can handle the upgrade. What wattage and quality level should I look for in a replacement PSU?
Answers
At minimum, Iโd target a quality 750W power supply, but 850W is preferable if the price difference is reasonable. The exact requirement also depends on your processor and the rest of the system, so a PSU calculator can help confirm the total load. Donโt choose based on wattage aloneโlook for a well-reviewed unit from a reliable manufacturer.

Yes, you should upgrade the PSU. The RX 6900 XT can draw around 300W by itself, and a 500W unit leaves too little headroom for the CPU, drives, fans, and power spikes. A good 750W PSU should work for many systems, while 850W gives you more comfortable overhead. Make sure itโs a reputable model with the required PCIe power connectors.
