I accidentally broke the plastic retention clip on my motherboard's PCIe slot while removing my graphics card. The GPU is fully seated, secured to the case with the normal screws, and has continued working perfectly for several years. My PC rarely moves and will probably stay in the same location for a long time. Should I leave the broken clip alone, or could it cause problems over time? I also have a GPU support stand, but I'm concerned that placing it near the end of the card might put unwanted pressure on the GPU or motherboard.

A GPU support bracket is optional, but it can help with heavier cards. To avoid putting upward pressure on the card, lay the case flat so the GPU naturally sits level, then adjust the stand until it just touches the underside. It should support the card, not lift or bend it.
PCIe slots existed before these retention clips became common, so the clip itself isn’t what provides all the structural support. As long as the card is fully inserted, the rear bracket is screwed in securely, and the PC isn’t being moved around, leaving it as-is should be fine.
