I'm currently using a standard Windows 11 setup and keep hearing that Linux is better. I'm curious about the real benefits, how difficult Linux is to install and learn, and whether dual-booting would be worthwhile. I'd like to try Linux without giving up Windows in case I still need it for certain games or programs.

The biggest practical advantage is flexibility. Linux can be great for development, customization, privacy, and avoiding some of Windows’ restrictions, but it also has a learning curve and hardware or software compatibility can vary. Games using certain anti-cheat systems and some proprietary applications may still require Windows.
Dual-booting makes sense if you want Linux while keeping Windows available for games or programs that don’t work properly on Linux. If you’re only curious, try a Linux live USB or a virtual machine first so you can experiment without changing your drive. If you end up preferring Linux, you can remove Windows later.
Don’t install Linux just because people online say it’s better. The right choice depends on what you actually do. A virtual machine such as VirtualBox or VMware is an easy way to test different distributions, while a live USB lets you check hardware compatibility without installing anything. If Linux fits your workflow after testing, then dual-booting becomes much more worthwhile.
If you decide to dual-boot, using separate physical drives is generally safer and simpler than shrinking the existing Windows partition. Windows updates can occasionally interfere with boot entries, and resizing a full Windows drive always carries some data risk.
