Is it legal for Apple resellers in India to require AppleCare with iPhone purchases?

I asked about the new iPhone 17 Pro Max at an authorized reseller in India and was told that I can only pre-order or buy the phone if I also purchase AppleCare. I don't want AppleCare, though. Is it legal for them to force this service on customers when Apple states it's optional? Thanks in advance!

Yeah, itโ€™s very unusual for authorized retailers to act this way. It might be worth reporting their actions to Apple, as it could be seen as a scam if theyโ€™re manipulating the buying process. Itโ€™s definitely not how it should work!

FriendlyNerd23: It seems like more of a revenue strategy; all the authorized retailers around here are in on it.

Sounds fishy for sure! If the resellers are not multi-brand and are proper Apple stores, they shouldn't be forcing AppleCare. Make sure to document everything and raise this with Apple when you can.

This sounds pretty odd! Iโ€™d suggest reaching out to Apple directly, as they might want to know. Itโ€™s strange that all resellers in your area are doing this. Could be a tactic to boost their sales during the iPhone craze!

Wanderlust24: I've already emailed Apple India about it. Fingers crossed they respond soon!
