I'm setting up a home server with Ubuntu Server and Jellyfin, and this is my first real experience using Linux or writing commands. I've spent around five hours trying to install Jellyfin, but the instructions and AI-generated commands keep giving me incorrect paths, addresses, or workarounds that fail. I expected a learning curve, but I feel like I'm going in circles and nothing is installing. Is this kind of struggle normal, and what's the best way to learn how to do this without blindly relying on AI?

Use Jellyfin’s official Linux installation instructions rather than combining commands from several AI responses. Make sure you choose the section for Ubuntu and follow it step by step. If something fails, stop there and read the exact error message instead of trying a random workaround. You can then search for that specific error or ask for help with the command and its output. Taking a break is worthwhile too—troubleshooting gets much harder when you’re frustrated.
Unfortunately, this is pretty normal when you’re learning Linux from scratch. The commands can look meaningless at first, and using AI without understanding the output can make things even more confusing. Try slowing down, use one reliable guide from start to finish, and look up each command before running it. It also helps to practice in a virtual machine or keep notes about what you changed so you can undo mistakes.
That makes sense, but I honestly don’t understand how people learn what the commands mean in the first place. I’ve been depending on AI because I don’t know how else to navigate it.

I’ll go through the official instructions tomorrow and start over with a clearer head. I was so frustrated that I kept trying random fixes instead of focusing on the actual error.
