I have an older HP Stream with about 4.3 GB of storage free. I mostly browse the web, watch videos, and write in Google Docs. It still works well enough, so Iโm unsure whether to replace it or try to make more room.
Is it time to replace my old laptop, or just clear some space?

If it does the things you need without frustrating slowdowns, you donโt have to replace it just because the free space is low. Check the storage settings to see the driveโs total capacity, then remove unused apps and temporary files. Keep some room free for updates, and save documents online or to an external drive if that suits you.

The listed 4 GB of RAM and Celeron N4020 are modest, so lots of open tabs or video calls may feel sluggish. For basic browsing and writing, though, they can still be adequate. Before shopping, find the laptopโs total storage and check whether it is receiving security updates. The amount free alone doesnโt tell you whether the drive is unusually small or nearly full.

If you do decide to replace it, Iโd look for at least 8 GB of memory and a 256 GB SSD rather than another very low-storage model. Since your work is mostly in a browser, a Chromebook could be an affordable fit, but check that the sites and apps you rely on work for you and that its support period is still current.

Thatโs mainly what I was worried about. Itโs usable right now, but I wasnโt sure if having only a few gigabytes free meant it was about to become unusable.
