Issues with Slow Performance on AWS Workspaces

I've got about 50 users working remotely on AWS Workspaces, but we're facing a frustrating issue—no matter how many resources I allocate, the performance tends to slow down over time. We have a 1 GB internet connection, and our latency to the Virginia East Datacenter fluctuates between 12-150ms. For some users, the instances freeze, while others experience delays of 5-10 seconds. Has anyone else encountered similar problems? I reached out to Amazon, and they suggested uninstalling all antivirus software, but it's still really slow. They've taken some logs, and I'm awaiting further updates. I also found out that there are known performance bottlenecks, even with high-end bundles, due to shared infrastructure congestion. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I suggest you run some traceroutes to see if there’s a network issue on one of your hops. The problem might not be with AWS itself, but somewhere along the way. Try isolating the source of the latency.

First things first, have your users run a latency check using the Health tool from Amazon Workspaces. It can give you a clearer picture of what's going on. It's super helpful! You might find varying results depending on how busy their connections are.

If most of your users are near the us-east-1 region, they shouldn’t be experiencing that level of latency. If your users are in a corporate setting, check for QoS settings that might be deprioritizing UDP traffic. Also, consider trying out the Amazon AppStream for improved performance.
