Looking for an Easy-to-Manage SAN/NAS Solution

I'm currently juggling multiple IT roles including helpdesk, Windows sysadmin, network admin, and O365 admin, which keeps me pretty busy. Most SAN/NAS solutions seem to be Linux-based, and while I'm somewhat familiar with Linux, I don't have the time to stay updated on it. I'm searching for a SAN/NAS solution that is straightforward to use and manage. Our organization is a small to medium-sized business with about 90 users, and we currently utilize a Windows SAN/NAS. I'm also open to appliance recommendations for storage. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

What type of files or usage are you planning for? If it’s for end users or general file sharing, Synology’s RS rack mount NAS systems are really user-friendly and handle most SMB requirements well. They also offer features like snapshots and offsite replication to something like S3.

That’s my top pick too, just wanted to see if there were any better options out there. Thanks!

I've been sticking with Synology for over 8 years. They offer a lot of features and good performance, but watch out for the newer models—some restrict drive usage which can raise costs.

Have you looked into QNAP NAS appliances? They're Linux-based but are really easy to manage via a web GUI, and you probably won’t need to touch the Linux backend at all!

It sounds like you might be interested in a storage operating system instead of a full-fledged appliance. If that’s the case, I’d recommend checking out TrueNAS. It's a solid choice for your needs.

Not to repeat what’s been said, but both TrueNAS and Synology are excellent choices. TrueNAS is great if you're looking into building it yourself, while Synology is more about plug-and-play ease.
