Lost My Bookmarks After Android Update - Can I Recover Them?

I accidentally deleted all my bookmarks from my Google account after doing a cleanup on my laptop. I had previously downloaded them using Google Takeout from phone1, but now when I checked my bookmarks on phone2, which I've never synced to my account, it only shows 3 bookmarks. Even worse, when I logged in and tried to sync, it seems like I lost all the bookmarks that were stored locally on phone2. I think I made a mistake by not waiting longer after deleting the bookmarks from my Google account before trying to sync on phone2. Now, with everything showing 0 bookmarks, is there any way I can recover them? I would even consider professional data recovery services if needed.

It sounds like a tricky situation you've got there. First off, it's essential to avoid trying data recovery on your own unless you really know what you're doing, since that can sometimes make things worse. Since you deleted the bookmarks from your Google account and saw a decrease in storage, that's not a good sign โ€“ it might mean the data is gone. The best option now might be to consider reaching out to a professional data recovery service if those bookmarks were crucial for you. They'll have the right tools and expertise to potentially recover lost data. Good luck!

I'm sorry you're dealing with this! It seems like you were just too quick in trying to sync after deleting your bookmarks. Since you mentioned not logging into your Google account on phone2 before, it should ideally still have those locally saved bookmarks. If signing in and out didn't help, you may want to see if there's any cache of data left in Chrome settings. Sometimes, the old bookmarks might still be lurking in the app's storage. Also, if you did have them saved in any form on Chrome, try looking for help in the Chrome settings to see if there's an option to recover them from a backup. A bit of digging could really pay off!
