I just bought a brand-new iPhone 17, but it won't charge when I connect it with a USB-C cable. MagSafe charging works normally. Has anyone experienced this, and what should I try before returning the phone?

Since the phone is new and MagSafe works but wired charging doesn’t, I’d take it back to the store for an exchange if a different cable and adapter don’t solve it. That points more toward a defective port or hardware issue than normal behavior.
If different cables and adapters don’t work, this may be a software issue or a faulty USB-C port. Check for updates and try a forced restart, but a brand-new phone shouldn’t need much troubleshooting—exchange or return it if the problem continues.
Try another known-good USB-C cable and charging adapter first, since the cable or power supply could be the problem. Also check the port for packaging debris, then restart the phone and install the latest iOS update.

There have been reports of some iPhone 17 models having charging problems when the battery is completely drained, so updating iOS may help. If it still won’t charge after that, I’d return it.
