I'm really getting tired of Windows 11 and I'm considering switching to Linux Mint Cinnamon since it seems user-friendly. I primarily use my Inspiron 3505 laptop for watching videos, doing college homework, and playing indie games on Steam and Discord with friends. The games I play are mostly indie and I have some projects in FL Studio as well. However, I'm a bit hesitant because I don't have much technical knowledge, and some of the games I play are .exe files from itch.io that may not be compatible with Linux. I'm in the process of saving my files on the cloud to prepare for this switch. Any tips or advice?

Definitely go for it! You can test Linux Mint using a USB stick first before committing to a full install. It’s a great way to see if it fits your needs without affecting your Windows setup.
If you're not sure about diving straight into Linux, why not try it out on an old laptop first? It’s a great way to learn without risking your main setup, and you might find it helps ease the transition. Plus, if it doesn't work out, you won’t feel like you've wasted anything.
Your concern about coding skills is valid, but you don’t actually need to know how to code to use Linux. You can run .exe files by adding them as non-Steam games in Steam; that way, you can use Proton to make them work. It might take a little extra setup, but it's completely manageable!
FL Studio doesn't support Linux natively, and running it through WINE can be really hit or miss, so if that's a dealbreaker for you, it might not be the best move. As for those itch.io games, some should work fine while others won't, but it's hard to say without knowing all the specifics of your game library.
It’s likely you'll want to dual boot since FL Studio doesn’t have Linux support, and some other apps you use might not run smoothly on Linux either. I dual boot my laptop and it works great! You can keep Windows for the essential software while exploring Linux.
