Trouble Connecting Domain Devices to a Shared Non-Domain Printer

I'm in the process of transitioning from an on-prem Active Directory to a cloud-only Entra ID. One of our tasks is to move from a domain-joined Papercut print server to a standalone desktop that will share printers. However, we're hitting a snag: the domain-joined devices can't connect to the shared printer on this non-domain device. We see the desktop, but connecting results in a generic error.

Here's what I've done so far to troubleshoot the issue: I've enabled insecure guest logons, pre-installed the necessary printer drivers, and even disabled the firewall on each device to rule out any blockage. Interestingly, a local admin account on the domain-joined PC can connect to the shared printer, but standard or admin domain users end up with this error. I would love any suggestions on how to move forward with this!

Just a heads up, the printer and the PC sharing it need to be either in the same workgroup or domain. If they're not, it might complicate things quite a bit, so that's definitely something to check out.

It sounds like you're dealing with a permissions or authentication issue. Make sure that the host desktop has proper permissions set for the printer. If the desktop is also domain-joined, head to the security tab for each printer and confirm that 'Domain Users' has all the necessary permissions enabled.
