My son lost his iPhone, and now he can't access his account because he doesn't remember the password. To make things worse, he can't reset it since he doesn't have his phone number to verify his identity. He was trying to use the Find My iPhone feature on iCloud, but he can't sign in. Is there any hope for him to recover his account?

He can try going through account recovery at iforgot.apple.com. He should enter his email and phone number, then follow the prompts that indicate he doesn’t have his phone number handy. Alternatively, if he can activate his number on a temporary device, he can reset his password that way.
Changing the phone number associated with his account to a different device could work too. If he can receive codes there, he can get back in.
Your best bet might be to visit an Apple Store with the original receipt and box. They may be able to help, but hopefully, he still has those.
Just a heads up, though: the Apple Store can usually only guide him online for account recovery. They can't do any resets for lost phones just with the box or receipt.
