What Happened to Lower Resolution Monitors for Gaming?

I used to enjoy gaming on a 1680x1050 monitor, which was less than 1080p but way better than a 720p screen. It was a great match for budget mid-range graphics cards running games on max settings with solid framerates. I'm wondering if there are any decent mid or low resolution monitors for gaming these days, since it seems like those options have disappeared from the market.

1080p is the new low resolution today. Sure, you might struggle to run AAA titles on max settings with a budget card, but it's really more about the GPU capabilities than the resolution itself. If you're willing to drop settings to medium, games still look decent! It's all about getting the best value out of used GPUs nowadays if you're looking for budget solutions.

FrugalGamer: Agreed! Used cards can be a great option if you're aiming for 1080p without splurging.

You're right, 1080p is now seen as the baseline resolution for gaming. For most budget GPUs, 1080p is a sweet spot to run games smoothly. You can find affordable options that excel at this resolution, making it more practical than searching for older lower resolutions like 1050.

Lower resolution monitors have just slowly faded away. With 1080p screens becoming cheaper and more accessible, there's less demand for those old formats. Nowadays, anything under 1080p feels a bit obsolete, especially with 1440p and 4k taking the spotlight.
