What is 'Bonjour' software and can I uninstall it?

I recently noticed a software called 'Bonjour' listed in my uninstall area. When I tried to uninstall it, my computer unexpectedly restarted and went through an update. Later on, while playing a game, I noticed 5-6 command prompts opening up out of nowhere. I'm not sure what's going on. I'm currently scanning my computer with Bitdefender. Does anyone have any advice on this?

Honestly, this software isn't a random problem; itโs just part of the Apple ecosystem. If you really want to get rid of it, go ahead, but do some research first to see how it might impact your system.

The multiple command prompts you saw might not be related to Bonjour at all. Itโs possible the game youโre playing is launching some of its own processes. Itโs good that youโre scanning with Bitdefender, but I wouldnโt stress too much about Bonjour unless you're having direct issues.

Bonjour is actually software developed by Apple. It was often bundled with iTunes, so if you've ever installed iTunes or any Apple product on your computer, that's likely how it got there. It's used for network discovery and helps devices find each other on a local network. It might seem unnecessary if you don't use Apple products, but it's generally safe. If you're having issues, uninstalling it is an option, but be cautious if you have Apple devices that rely on it for networking.

Yeah, Bonjour is for discovering devices on the network, especially for things like AirPlay or printers. If you remember installing iTunes or plugging in an iPhone, thatโs probably when it got installed. If youโre not using Apple devices, it might be okay to get rid of it, but just keep in mind that some things could stop working if they rely on Bonjour.
