What Linux Distro Works Best for an Old Laptop Like Mine?

I'm trying to revive my parents' old HP laptop, which has an AMD A8-6410 APU, 4GB of RAM, and a 750 GB HDD. It's been collecting dust since it became slow running Windows 10. I think switching to Linux could boost performance and security, especially since they're worried about Windows 10 being outdated. They mainly need it for basic tasks like browsing the internet, watching YouTube, and working on documents or videos since it has a DVD drive. I'm looking for a Linux distribution that feels somewhat similar to Windows to ease the transition for them. I've found suggestions for Mint Cinnamon, but I'm open to alternatives like Zorin OS or Kubuntu. What would you recommend for this situation?

I suggest using Mint, but think about swapping out the HDD for an SSD. It'll give a significant speed boost! Also, adding more RAM would help too.

Totally agree! Upgrading to an SSD really transforms old hardware.

Kubuntu is also worth a shot. It has a long support cycle, it’s reliable, and most drivers are already included. It's a good fit for basic tasks while still being easy to learn.

If you want to keep it light, consider Mint with XFCE instead of Cinnamon since it uses fewer resources. That way, it'll still feel user-friendly without slowing down the laptop too much.

Have you checked out Q4OS? It has a Windows-style interface that's easy for your parents to use, and it runs well on older laptops without requiring upgrades.

Sounds interesting! I haven’t come across Q4OS before. It might fit the bill for what we need.

Mint Cinnamon is a solid choice! It looks familiar and should run smoothly on their old machine.
