What should I do after my phone fell in the toilet?

Yesterday, I accidentally dropped my phone in a toilet while I was at the mall. I pulled it out right away, so it was only in the water for about 2 seconds. I turned it off and left it like that for an hour. After that, I turned it back on briefly to back up some photos just in case. I kept it on for about ten minutes before putting it back to sleep for the rest of the day and night. This morning, I cleaned out the charging port and headphone jack, and then I turned it on again. It seems to be running fine - no glitches, and the audio sounds good. I'm just hesitant to charge it until I'm sure the charging port is completely dry. Should I keep it off for longer or is it safe to charge now?

I had a similar experience with my Samsung. It was in a muddy puddle for 15 minutes and after giving it a clean, it worked perfectly. But I’ve also had a phone die after just 30 seconds in clean water. So it really depends on the model and condition! If it's going to break, it usually shows signs quickly.

You're probably fine! Most phones are built to survive a quick dunk like that. Just give it some time to fully dry out, especially the charging port before you plug it in.

Thanks, that’s a huge relief! My phone can be a bit dramatic with minor issues, so I thought this might be the end for it.

What model do you have? Most phones can handle a couple of seconds in water without any long-term issues. Just make sure to check the waterproofing rating if you can.

It's a Samsung Galaxy A13.

Just so you know, waterproof ratings start degrading from day one, so it's good to be cautious.
