What should I do if my phone randomly shuts off and won't turn back on?

I was just watching YouTube when my phone suddenly turned off, even though the battery was at 48%. Now it won't turn back on. Is there any chance I can fix this at home, or will I need to take it to a repair shop?

Have you attempted a hard reset? It can help to discharge any built-up electricity in the phone. Just hold down the power button for about 10 seconds and see if that brings it back.

Your phone could've overheated. Let it cool down for a bit and try turning it back on. Playing videos can get the CPU hot, especially if it's in a case or resting on a soft surface while charging.

I have an older phone that shuts off around 50% too. Usually, plugging it in revives it. It might mean your battery's on the way out. You can replace it yourself, but be cautiousโ€”itโ€™s not the easiest task. Try looking up "battery replacement [your phone model]" for some DIY videos.

Have you tried plugging it in and turning it on? Iโ€™m worried about how we troubleshoot tech sometimes, but it can help.

NinjaNerd88: It's sort of in a weird stateโ€”it doesn't respond much, but the screen is still glowing.

Itโ€™s likely a battery issue. Even if it shows 48%, the battery might have failed. If it doesn't respond when you plug it in and hold the power button, I recommend going to a repair shop for help.

Did you try charging it? Sometimes it might just need a little boost to get going again.

CuriousCat77: It was actually charging when it shut off.
