What’s the best way to learn programming fundamentals without getting overwhelmed by syntax?

I've been interested in technology since I was young and recently decided to pursue a career in IT, even though the job market feels difficult right now. My programming skills are still pretty shaky because I don't feel confident with the basic concepts yet. Is there a language, tool, or learning approach that can help me understand programming fundamentals from scratch without being distracted by complicated syntax? I'd like to build projects as soon as possible, so I'm looking for a practical starting point.

Python is probably the best text-based starting point. Its syntax is relatively small and readable, so you can focus on concepts like loops, functions, data structures, and control flow. You’ll still need to learn syntax eventually, but Python keeps it from getting in the way as much as some other languages.

Try to understand why the syntax exists instead of treating it as something to memorize. Build a small project, ask questions whenever you get stuck, and break each feature into smaller pieces. After seeing the same patterns repeatedly, the syntax starts to feel natural and the bigger challenge becomes modeling the problem clearly.

There isn’t really a practical programming language with no syntax. Even block-based tools have rules about how things fit together. The most effective approach is to choose one beginner-friendly language, accept the small amount of syntax, and learn it through short exercises instead of trying to understand everything before writing code.

Learning comes from studying and practicing, not just choosing the perfect language. Spend a consistent amount of time each day working through a structured beginner course and building small projects. A curriculum focused on web development can teach programming fundamentals while giving you useful projects to complete.

Scratch is a good way to learn the basic logic of programming because the blocks remove most syntax errors. You can practice variables, conditionals, loops, events, and even simple functions before worrying about punctuation and formatting. It may look aimed at children, but it can still be useful for quickly prototyping ideas.
