I'm wondering what AMD CPU will succeed the 9800X3D and when I can expect its release. I'm planning to buy a new PC next year, which will be around the five-year mark since I got my 10900K and 3070, so I want to make sure I keep an eye on the latest developments, especially with the AM6 coming out after a year.

Regarding Zen 6, you could be waiting until early 2027 for that one, but it’s still going to be compatible with the AM5 socket.
It looks like the next model will be the 9800X3D2, with an estimated release sometime next year. Following that, we can expect the Zen 6 series, though there are rumors it might face some delays. Also, some are suggesting it might be named the 9850X3D with upgrades in clock speeds.
Just to add, the names might be a bit different. We're looking at possibly the 9850X3D featuring higher clock speeds than the 9800X3D, and a 9950X3D2 could come out with 3D-cache on both die.
Both the Zen 6 and Zen 7 series will definitely support AM5, which is good news for future-proofing your builds!
As for naming conventions, the Zen 6 might be called 11800X3D. The 10 series could end up being mobile or APU only, but Zen 7 will likely make its way to AM5 too.

I think saying early next year is way too optimistic. Mid to late 2026 seems more feasible. Plus, if it's really coming that soon, we should see more leaks and sample images pretty soon.
