I'm having trouble with my USB drive. I copied some music files into various folders, but when I unplug the drive and plug it back in, all the files are missing—only the folders remain. I bought this drive pretty cheap, so I'm wondering if it's broken or if there's a way to fix this issue?

That's frustrating! You mentioned you could format it successfully, but what format are you using? If NTFS isn't working, maybe try exFAT since it works with both Windows and macOS. If you've copied files and they show up initially but disappear after you unplug, it might be a sign of a defective drive.
It sounds like you might need to format the drive. Have you tried that? Sometimes these cheap drives can be faulty or may show a larger capacity than they actually have. Since you didn't mention the software you're using, I assume you're using a standard file manager; if that's the case, then it's probably not a software issue. Formatting could help, though! Let me know if you need help with the formatting process.
