I use Outlook on my phone for my college email, but Outlook is not working properly on my MacBook, so I added the account to the built-in Mail app instead. The account uses an Exchange server called "My College." I can receive messages normally, but every time I try to send one, I get an error saying that the message cannot be sent using the college outgoing mail server and that I should choose another server or leave the message in the Outbox to try later. The only other outgoing server listed is Google, and that does not work either. My messages contain only text, and I have not changed my password recently. What could be causing this, and how can I fix the outgoing mail settings?

Since receiving mail works but sending does not, the problem is probably with the outgoing Exchange server or its account authentication. Large attachments do not seem to be the issue if the messages contain only text. Try removing the college account from Mail and adding it again using the official Exchange or Microsoft sign-in option, rather than setting it up manually. If that still fails, the college’s IT department may need to confirm the correct outgoing server settings or reset the account connection.
The warning symbol beside the Google server usually means that server is unavailable or not configured for this account. A Google outgoing server cannot normally send messages for a college Exchange account, so selecting it will not fix the problem. The college account should use its own authenticated Exchange outgoing server. Re-adding the account may restore that configuration; otherwise, contact campus IT for the exact server and sign-in requirements.
Outlook started working again, but I still cannot remove the college server from the Mail app, and the Google server still shows a warning symbol.
There are no attachments, and my password has not changed. I’ll try removing the account and adding it again.
