Why Do My Texts Say ‘Read’ After Being Blocked on iMessage?

I was texting someone about a year and three months ago when they blocked me. For the past year, my messages on iMessage only showed as 'Delivered.' However, when I contacted them again around three months ago, my texts suddenly showed as 'Read' with a timestamp from a few days ago. I'm confused because I'm sure I was blocked, so how did they end up reading my messages? Is it possible they unblocked me and all my previous messages came through? Additionally, they were away and might have had another device that was turned off during that time. Does blocking require syncing over a long period if the device was unavailable?

From what I know, if your message says 'Delivered,' it means they received it on their phone, which suggests you aren't blocked. It's possible they may have blocked your number but also have another device linked to their iMessage where your messages were delivered. When someone opens the text thread, that's when you'll see 'Read.' Generally, if you were fully blocked, your messages wouldn’t even show as delivered since the person would never receive them unless they switched devices, like I mentioned. Hope this clarifies things for you!

I thought blocking might take a while to sync too, but how come their other device didn’t sync for an entire year?
