Why do some people prefer using websites in a phone browser instead of dedicated apps?

I've noticed that many people use services such as social networks through their phone's browser instead of installing the dedicated apps. I tried doing this too, but the browser versions sometimes lack features and add pages to my browsing history. What are the main reasons people choose the browser experience?

A browser can be more convenient and private. Ad blockers and tracking protection usually work better there, and websites generally have access to less device data than apps. I also prefer opening several pages in tabs, copying text or links, and zooming in when needed. Apps often make those things harder.

For many people, the missing app features don’t matter. They would rather avoid extra notifications, tracking, storage use, and advertising. Browser history usually isn’t a major concern because it can be cleared or managed, while the benefits of using one browser for many services are more noticeable.

I don’t want a separate app for every website I use. Apps take up storage, add clutter, and often request permissions or send notifications that I don’t need. If the website already provides the features I use, installing another app feels unnecessary.

Some apps are much more aggressive about collecting data, showing ads, and keeping you engaged. Using the website can reduce that access, especially with an ad blocker. The browser version may be less polished, but that can actually make it easier to check something quickly and leave instead of getting pulled into endless scrolling.

That’s how I feel too. The less polished website makes me less likely to spend hours scrolling, so I mainly use it for messages or a quick check.
