Why Does ChatGPT Deny Writing Something It Just Did?

Sometimes I rely on ChatGPT to help me write explicit scenes because I really dislike writing them myself. However, I've noticed that its responses can be inconsistent. For example, today it refused to create something explicit, saying, 'Sorry I can't help with that,' despite having written similar content for me just the day before. I confronted it by quoting what it had written, but it insisted that I was mistaken and hadn't written that at all. What's going on here?

ChatGPT really only knows what you input and can get confused if it doesn't see direct evidence of prior interactions. If you didn’t save the chat, it's lost on the memory. Plus, the content policy is strict, so sometimes it just shuts down on explicit stuff, even if it did write it before. It's all about the filters and context.

That makes sense! Seems like the content filter can cause some real inconsistencies depending on the prompts.

You're definitely not alone in this! A lot of people find that it can deny its own previous responses depending on the content type.
